This handwoven coaster is crafted from high-quality rush grass (igusa, い草) in Japan. 

Tatami (畳) is a traditional Japanese flooring mat made from rush grass, and it is commonly used in Japanese homes. This Tatami Coaster, made from eco-friendly, natural materials, brings the essence of Japanese tradition into modern living. Each coaster is carefully handwoven by skilled artisans, highlighting the natural beauty of the grass and its delicate, textured pattern. 

The coaster’s subtle natural tones complement any décor, bringing warmth and simplicity to your dining table, or office desk. Perfect for matcha, tea, coffee, or sake cups, or even as a decorative piece. 

Each piece is handwoven, with slight variations in shape due to the artisanal process. The green rush may have a natural grassy scent at first, which is normal for all tatami. This smell will gradually fade over time.

Care instruction

  • Avoid direct exposure to excessive moisture. If the coaster becomes wet, gently wipe it with a soft cloth and allow it to air dry completely, keeping it out of direct sunlight. 
  • To clean, use a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush to remove dust and dirt. For stubborn stains, gently wipe the affected area with a wet cloth (no soap). Do not soak the coaster in water. 
  • Do not use any harsh cleaning products, bleach, or abrasives, as they may damage the natural fibers. 
  • When not in use, store the coaster in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or warping. 
  • Although durable, the coaster is crafted from natural materials, so handle with care to avoid bending or damaging the intricate weave.
