This handmade ichirin vase is crafted in Japan using traditional Mashiko ware (益子焼) techniques. Made with locally sourced clay from Mashiko, each piece reflects the region’s long-standing pottery heritage and artisanal craftsmanship.

The minimalist design of the Ichirin-zashi (一輪挿し) vase celebrates the quiet elegance of a single flower. Rooted in the Japanese art of Ikebana, it draws attention to the natural beauty of each stem—whether a vibrant bloom, a delicate branch, or a simple sprig—while embodying the aesthetic philosophy of wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in imperfection and transience.

Placed on a table, shelf, or windowsill, this vase effortlessly adds a sense of rustic elegance to any space. Its understated form makes it a versatile accent that complements modern, rustic, and traditional interiors alike.

While minimalist in shape, the glaze reveals rich depth and natural variation. Artisans create the glaze by blending ash produced from wood-burning stoves used in their daily lives, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind colours. The yellow glaze, in particular, varies significantly from piece to piece, making each vase uniquely expressive.

As each vase is handmade, slight variations in shape, colour, and glaze are part of its character and artisanal charm—no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Care instruction

Before use, it is recommended to soak ceramics in clean water for a few hours (ideally overnight) to help prevent stains.
For oily or dark-colored foods, please wash the ceramics as soon as possible, as prolonged contact may cause staining.
Handwashing is recommended, but they are dishwasher safe. However, if ceramics hit each other in the dishwasher, it may cause chipping.
After washing, be sure to dry the ceramics thoroughly before placing them back on the shelf. Storing them while still damp may lead to mold, stains, or smell.
Microwave safe, but avoid prolonged use.
Crackle in the glaze may appear, but this is a natural characteristic of ceramics and will not affect its use.
Large grains of clay have been used in ceramics, so please avoid dragging them on the table, as this may scratch the surface.
